Fri 24th
I mentioned the other day that I could tell the time without my watch. Well it must have taken the huff, because it packed in a 7:20!
Set off at 8:15 - it was a sunny day, and although cold, there was none of the heavy rain, experienced in the East.
In a lay-by - on the north side of Lancaster - I walked past a lorry. The driver was sorting out his fabric side-screens on his flat-back, and I must have taken him by surprise. "Jings me! [sanitised]" he exclaimed, "I didn't expect anyone walking past here."
Well, two hundred yards further along the pathway I meet three guys. Two [?] were walking "end to end" as we, experts, describe it, but in the opposite direction. They had also done a bit of mountain climbing along the way. We had just got over our surprise - I had not seen one other serious walker - when another guy trundles up. An American who was also walking JOG > LE. It was all rather surreal, as it was, also, almost at the half-way point. Anyway, once they took a few photos and our initial chat, we got down to the serious topic of who had the biggest blisters, and their associated pain and treatment.
Spent the night in a four-poster bed at Cross Keys Hotel in Milnthorpe [£47:50].
Travelled over 25 miles today - things getting a little better. [Will give an ankle update, a little later]
Hi Dave,
ReplyDeleteYou are doing well since you left Cornwall! We had a memorable time in Austria and then at the Passion Play in Oberammergau.
Keep it up.
Best wishes
Roger & Frances
Half way Dave, great stuff, downhill all the way now - soon be in Scotland!
ReplyDeleteEnjoying your pain and watching your progress..
ReplyDeleteOnwards and upwards GL
You're doing brilliantly, Dave. At 25 miles day, you should get to JOG before the nights start drawing in too much. However, as to whether Shap or Beattock will be "downhill all the way", I have my doubts!
