Run Baby Run

Mon 4th
Meant to get an earlier start, but I didn’t get going until 9:00 – I must be getting soft!
As I walked towards Cowdenbeath, I’m very aware of vehicles passing closer to me than usual.
Reason: Have I lost my edge, after having had too much time off, relaxing and catching up with friends; was it the prevailing road conditions; or do these guys actually recognise me?
Stopped off in Kinross, later afternoon. Lunches had ceased being served, but I did indulged in a smoked salmon, with fromage frais and chives, on brown – one does have to pander to a sophisticated palate, now and again.
As I’m doing the connoisseur bit [bite], this old chat saunters in. He is 80, if he is a day, pinstripe suit, with a carnation in the button-hole. After ordering his pint of lager, he engages the barmaid in conversation, regarding her hip replacement. I thought 'this guy is “half-cut,”' but he was just an interesting character. Because [I know it is bad grammar, but it adds to ease and fluidity], when I walk out the door, here is this badly-parked ancient, golden XJ6 with the driver’s window fully down, and airbrushed on the door, “Dr ‘So-and-so” – brilliant!
I have immediate flashbacks: to my first car, which had “Dave” stencilled on the driver’s door, and “Run Baby Run” across the bonnet; and my first XJ6 which had a “paint job” with flames coming out of the wheel arches [Forgive, but you’ve got to realise that this was the 1970s!]
Perhaps I should have a similar paint, and stencil, job done on the E-type to rekindle…there again…..

Walked on to the Glenfarg Hotel, to spend the night – very comfortable [£40]
